Stephenson named “Musical Collaborator” with Grand Rapids Symphony

I have been engaged to create reduced chamber ensemble orchestrations of many standard works, for production for the Grand Rapids Symphony’s new 2020-21 online concert series: Pathwaves.
Of particular note is the opportunity to create eight new arrangements for a Nov. 13/14 special concert featuring the acclaimed violinist Joshua Bell and renowned soprano Larisa Martinez.

As of October 1, 2020, here is a list of new adaptations, which will all be available for rental/purchase following the GRS premieres:

  • Lift Every Voice and Sing: orchestral brass ensemble/percussion
  • The Star Spangled Banner: orchestral brass ensemble/percussion
  • Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture: 20-piece chamber orchestra
  • Clair de lune: 20-piece chamber orchestra
  • Ave Maria (Gomes): 20-piece chamber orchestra
  • Colors (Stephenson): chamber orchestra

Joshua Bell/Larisa Martinez concert (Nov. 13/14):

  • Mendelssohn: Concert Aria Op.94 “Ah, ritorna, età dell’oro” (soprano/violin – chamber orch)
  • Dvorak: Song to the Moon (soprano/chamber orch)
  • Dvorak-Kreisler: Slavonic Fantasy (violin/chamber orch)
  • Chopin: Nocturne in B-flat Minor, Op. 9, No. 1 (violin + 8 cellists/harp)
  • Rachmaninoff: (pending)  Oh Cease Thy Singing Maiden Fair (soprano/violin – chamber orch)
  • Bizet-Sarasate: Carmen Fantasie (Habanera) (violin/chamber orch)
  • Puccini: Quando M’en Vo (soprano/chamber orch)
  • Bernstein: (used by permission) West Side Story medley. (soprano/violin – chamber orch)
